A recent evening reminded me why Hongdae is one of the best places to find live music. Walking down a street, I found high school students — one singing and playing guitar while another kept the beat on a djembe African drum — playing Kim Bum-soo’s “I Miss You” for the singer’s girlfriend’s birthday. Not far from them a band called Our Symphonic Life played reggae next to an open guitar case containing loose change and CDs for sale. In a small nearby park, a popular hip hop group drew a crowd, while a small jazz ensemble finished their set. It is like this every day and all night in Hongdae. If you are a fan of live music, you must stop by.
