German School of Music Weimar flute professor Philipp Jundt will perform with flutist Paik Soo Hyun and the Oliver Schnyder Trio at Youngsan Art Hall Sunday evening. The concert is a happy reunion for Jundt, Paik, and Schnyder, who took the stage together last September at Seoul Arts Center to great acclaim. The Oliver Schnyder Trio is currently touring East Asia to promote their newest CD, an arrangement of Schubert’s Winterreise with tenor Daniel Behle (Sony Classical). Listen to excerpts on SoundCloud.
Sunday’s concert will largely be a celebration of Schubert, beginning with his Piano Trio in E-flat Major — the composition they debuted with at the Zurich Tonhalle. This will be followed with selections from Winterreise (Winter Journey) with the vocal parts performed with flute. The program ends with flute and piano pieces by Shostakovich. See below for further details.
Forming in 2012, the Oliver Schnyder Trio has already garnered a large fan base in Europe. “For chamber music, the kind of visibility we’ve gotten is unheard of,” says Schnyder. “This is our debut in East Asia, where we hope to build something similar.”
